THE FORGOTTON OUTBUILDING
Oxfordshire, UK
We undertook an initial design exercise looking at ways to transform a disused old stone outbuilding into a contemporary family home.
The existing structure houses the kitchen, dining and living areas, using its roadside position to buffer noise and provide privacy for the new two-storey extension behind, where the more private rooms are located.
The layout is designed to maximise daylight within the living spaces and the outdoor seating area is positioned to capture the afternoon sun.
Materials are contemporary, yet respectful of the existing building, creating a bold but sensitive contrast.
